Women’s Health Physiotherapy

Women’s Health Physiotherapy

Women’s health is a specific area of physiotherapy which addresses all gynaecological or obstetric symptoms. Whether you are pregnant, a new mum, recovering from gynaecological surgery, experiencing incontinence, prolapse, painful intercourse or pelvic girdle pain, women’s health physiotherapy can help to improve your health, fitness and well-being at any stage of life.

At Kerry Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation Centre we recognise and truly understand the sensitivity around women’s health-related issues and therefore strive to create a professional yet relaxed environment in which you feel comfortable discussing your worries and concerns.

We treat women with a range of conditions and specialise in those of a complex nature. Whether your problem is due to injury, posture, dysfunction, surgery, pregnancy or menopause we endeavour to identify all contributing factors to the problem and design your treatment accordingly.

Incontinence Issues

Pelvic floor physiotherapy assesses and treats the many symptoms associated with pelvic floor dysfunction. A physiotherapy assessment by a Specialist Pelvic Floor Physiotherapist is of paramount importance to ensure individualised treatment and optimise outcomes.

Conditions treated:

  • Bladder and bowel symptoms
  • Pelvic organ prolapse
  • Pelvic pain
  • Sexual dysfunction

One in three women will experience incontinence at some time in their life and it can be treated very successfully with physiotherapy.

Pregnancy and Post-Natal Issues

Pregnancy is a miraculous event, but it can be physically demanding on your body.

Symptoms that can be treated include:

  • Pain in the pelvic region and pubic bone
  • Coccyx (Tailbone pain)
  • Wrist pain and tingling in the fingers during pregnancy
  • Pelvic floor muscle weakness
  • Diastasis of the rectus abdominis or abdominal muscle separation following or during pregnancy

Fiona will be with you every step of the way, ensuring that you and your child
have the safest delivery possible, and ensuring your health, body, and lifestyle are maintained throughout pregnancy. This is all done in a safe, confidential and professional environment.
